Pionner Mascot Valerie Rule Valerie Rule

GLENVILLE, WV – Valerie Rule, an upcoming sophomore from Webster Springs, West Virginia, has been named the Glenville State College Pioneer Mascot for the 2016-2017 school year.

“I’m look forward to working with the cheerleaders and our student organizations to help promote things happening on campus,” said Rule. “I was so excited when I learned that I would be the new Pioneer. They told me to sit down and brace myself before the announcement because of how excited they knew I would get,” she continued.

The business major is a member of Delta Xi Rho and Student Support Services. She says that she is most looking forward to inspiring young students to go to college and getting other GSC students involved in events all around campus. She is the daughter of Thomas and Brenda Rule.

“I’m very excited for Valerie to represent Glenville State College as the Pioneer for the 2016-2017 year! Her excitement and enthusiasm are overwhelming and I believe she will bring an infectious pioneer spirit to the campus that we have never seen,” said Director of Student Activities Jodi Walters.

As the GSC Pioneer, Rule will attend GSC athletic events, tournaments, and other school events. The Pioneer is charged with working with GSC students, faculty, and staff to positively promote and support the college. The official uniform of the GSC Pioneer mascot is a set of buckskins, a coonskin hat, and a musket. Rule becomes the 77th student to portray the Pioneer Mascot since the tradition began during the 1933-34 school year. She will be the fourth woman to serve as the Pioneer.
