Glenville, WV – Fifteen students have completed their student teaching internships for Glenville State College and participated in GSC’s May Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 18.

Rebecca Bartlett
Bartlett

Rebecca Bartlett of Nettie, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Elementary Education (K-6) and Social Studies Education (5-9) at Summersville Middle School with Denise McGraw and at Summersville Elementary School with Cindy Loss. Frances Fry was her GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Mark and Annette Segal. Bartlett grew up in Crofton, Maryland but currently resides in Nicholas County with her husband Jacob and her their children Saporah and Lilah.

Breanna Bennett of Fayetteville, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Music Education (PreK-adult) at Nicholas County High School with Jason Hypes and at Gilmer County Elementary School with Judy Leggett. Frances Fry, Dr. Shelly Ratliff, and Dr. David Lewis were her GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of James and Lori Bennett of Fayetteville, West Virginia. Bennett was also recognized as the Outstanding Student Teacher Intern for the spring 2019 semester.

Katelyn Benson of Glenville, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Elementary Education (K-6), Early Education (PreK-K), and English Education (5-9) at Braxton County Middle School with Alice Smith and at Burnsville Elementary School with Joyce Stump. Dr. Shelly Ratliff and Dr. Melody Wise were her GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Neal and Renita Benson of Glenville, West Virginia. 

Austin Broussard

Austin Broussard of Elkview, West Virginia completed his student teaching in Music Education (PreK-adult) at Gilmer County Elementary School with Judy Leggett and at Buckhannon Upshur High School with Jeremiah Smallridge and Garrett Friend. Dr. Shara Curry and Dr. David Lewis were his GSC supervisors. He is the son of Brian and Kristie Broussard of Charleston, West Virginia.

Austin Hill

Austin Hill of Mount Nebo, West Virginia completed his student teaching in Health and Physical Education (PreK-adult) at New River Elementary school with Benjamin Bowling and at Midland Trail High School with Kathryn Miller. Frances Fry and Dr. Jong-Hoon Yu were his GSC supervisors. He is the son of Charles and Deborah Hill of Mount Nebo, West Virginia.

William Lyons of Nettie, West Virginia completed his student teaching in Mathematics Education (5-adult) at Summersville Middle School with Tabitha Bever and at Braxton County High School with Mackenzie Helmick. Joseph Wood, Dr. Shara Curry, and Frances Fry were his GSC supervisors. He is the son of Wesley Lyons of Summersville, West Virginia and Diane Nelson of Nettie, West Virginia.

Alec “Gabe” Maynard of Chapmanville, West Virginia completed his student teaching in English Education (5-adult) and Social Studies Education (5-adult) at Gilmer County High School with Dr. Grace Wine and Karen McClain. Dr. Melody Wise and Dr. Michael Gherke were his GSC supervisors. He is the son of Dale and Darlene Maynard of Conway, South Carolina.

Elizabeth Messer of Summersville, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Elementary Education (K-6) and Early Education (PreK-K) at Gilmer County Elementary School with Tanya Stewart and Erica Dennison. Dr. Shelly Ratliff was her GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Jeff and Karen Messer of Summersville, West Virginia.

Hannah Mick of Clarksburg, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Early Education (PreK-K) and Elementary Education (K-6) at Nutter Fort Elementary School with Maria Bailey and Melissa Nelson. Dr. Shelly Ratliff was her GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Sharon and David Mick of Clarksburg, West Virginia.

Travis Myers of Fayetteville, West Virginia completed his student teaching in Music Education (PreK-adult) at Ansted Elementary School with Brenda Cooper and at Oak Hill High School with Greg Richmond. Frances Fry and Dr. David Lewis were his GSC supervisors. He is the son of Timothy and Tammie Myers of Fayetteville, West Virginia. 

Alli Parski

Alli Parski of Spencer, West Virginia completed her student in Elementary Education (K-6), Multi-Categorical Special Education (K-6), and General Math-Algebra I Education (5-9) at Gilmer County Elementary School with Nicole Moyers and Tina Foster and at Spencer Middle School as a Teacher-In-Residence. Dr. Shelly Ratliff, Dr. Ed Wood, and Dr. Gerda Kumpiene were her GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Jim and Sue Parski of Chesterfield, Michigan.

Caitlyn Rogers

Caitlyn Rogers of Duck, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Elementary Education (K-6) at H. E. White Elementary School with Kimberly Carroll. For her Early Education (PreK-K) specialization, she also served as a Teacher-in-Residence at H.E. White Elementary. Dr. Shelly Ratliff was her GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Sabrina and Roger Holcomb and Matthew Rogers of Duck, West Virginia.

Wesley Self of Sand Fork, West Virginia completed his student teaching in Social Studies Education (5-adult) at Braxton County High School with J.D. Drake and Jerry Frame and at Braxton County Middle School with Missy Strong. Don Sheets and Dr. Michael Gherke were his GSC supervisors. He is the son of Charles and Laura Self of Sand Fork, West Virginia. 

Clayton Swisher

Clayton Swisher of Ripley, West Virginia completed his student teaching in Music Education (PreK-adult) at Fayetteville High School with Stephanie Messenger and at Mt. Hope Elementary School with Cathy Broughman. Dr. David Lewis and Frances Fry were his GSC supervisors. He is the son of Greg and Melanie Swisher of Oak Hill, West Virginia.

Brittany White
White

Brittany White of Frametown, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Elementary Education (K-6) and Early Education (PreK-K) at Flatwoods Elementary School with Barbie Rader and Jaime Currence. Dr. Shelly Ratliff was her GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Rosa White of Frametown, West Virginia. She currently resides in Frametown with her husband Rodney and her son Jennings.

Senior teacher education students take part in an internship during their final semester at GSC. At the conclusion of their internship students must complete a presentation illustrating their mastery of the Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC) standards as well as the standards of their particular area of study.
