Twenty-Nine Students Recognized at Honors Convocation

GLENVILLE, WV – Twenty-nine students, one student organization, and one student group’s faculty advisors have been recognized at the 2014 Glenville State College Honors Convocation Ceremony. The event took place on May 1st following a banquet in the Mollohan Campus Community Center Ballroom.  GSC President Dr. Peter Barr welcomed everyone to the event and Provost Dr. John Peek presided over the awards ceremony.

GSC Department of Business Chair and Professor Dr. Chuck Batson presented departmental awards to the following business students:  accounting and management December 2013 graduate Racheal Fetty of Spencer (Roane County), West Virginia; accounting and management major Ashlee Henry of Powhatan Point, Ohio; sport management, business education (5-adult), and general math-algebra I (5-9) major Howard 'Trey' Meeks, III of Saint Marys (Pleasants County), West Virginia; business major Connie Roberts of Sutton (Braxton County), West Virginia; accounting and management major Casey Toler of Heaters (Braxton County), West Virginia; and accounting and management major Kyle Warner of Gassaway (Braxton County), West Virginia.

GSC Department of Criminal Justice Assistant Professor Kelly Treece presented departmental awards to the following criminal justice students: corrections and law enforcement major Trent Moats of Franklin (Pendleton County), West Virginia and investigative science and technology and law enforcement major Garrett Rinehart of Cumberland, Maryland.

GSC Department of Education Chair and Associate Professor Dr. Kevin Cain presented departmental awards to the following education students:  elementary education (K-6) and early education (PreK-K) major Katelyn Lake of Hacker Valley (Webster County), West Virginia; health and physical education (PreK-adult) major Tate Linder of Mineral Wells (Wood County), West Virginia; elementary education (K-6) and early education (PreK-K) major Loretta 'Nikki' Whytsell of Grantsville (Calhoun County), West Virginia; and elementary education (K-6) and multi-categorical special education (K-6) major Katherine Williams of Spencer (Roane County), West Virginia.

GSC Department of Fine Arts Chair and Assistant Professor Mr. Lloyd Bone presented departmental awards to the following fine arts students:  studio art major Amanda Wallbrown of Rosedale (Braxton County), West Virginia; bluegrass music major Ryan Spangenberg of Madison, Ohio; and music education (PreK-adult) major Brittany McGuire of Mount Hope (Fayette County), West Virginia.

GSC Department of Land Resources Chair and Professor Dr. Milan Vavrek presented departmental awards to the following land resources students:  natural resource management and applied science major Adrian Patterson of Glenville (Gilmer County), West Virginia; forest technology major Jonathan Rhodes of Leroy (Jackson County), West Virginia; natural resource management and land surveying technology major David Chestnut of Belle (Kanawha County), West Virginia; and natural resource management and landman technology major Brandon Abbott of Gandeeville (Roane County), West Virginia.

GSC Department of Language and Literature Chair and Associate Professor Mr. Wayne de Rosset presented departmental awards to the following language and literature students:  English education (5-adult) major Katrina Adkins of Clay (Clay County), West Virginia; English education (5-adult) major Jacob Clevenger of Smithville (Ritchie County), West Virginia; and English and Psychology/Sociology major Megan Rollins of Gassaway (Braxton County), West Virginia.

GSC Department of Science and Mathematics Chair and Assistant Professor Dr. Gary Morris presented departmental awards to the following science and math students:  mathematics education (5-adult) major Kathryn Younts of Nettie (Nicholas County), West Virginia; biology major (with a chemistry minor) Morgan Scarpellini of Hamlin (Lincoln County), West Virginia; and chemistry major (with a math and physics minor) Dennis Harvey of Mill Creek (Randolph County), West Virginia.

GSC Department of Social Science Chair and Associate Professor Dr. Ed Wood presented departmental awards to the following social science students:  behavioral science major (with a social work minor) Amanda Abramovich of Auburn (Ritchie County), West Virginia; history and political science major (with a business minor) Christopher Rhodes of Gassaway (Braxton County), West Virginia; and social studies education (5-adult) Hunter McWhorter of Horner (Lewis County), West Virginia.

GSC Athletic Director Mrs. Janet Bailey presented awards to the following student athletes:  biology major (with chemistry a minor) and softball player Morgan Scarpellini of Hamlin, West Virginia and accounting and management major and football player Kyle Warner of Gassaway, West Virginia.

GSC Dean of Student Life Mr. Duane Chapman presented the following student life awards:  Outstanding Student Organization Award to criminal justice honorary Sigma Pi Xi; Outstanding Student Organization Leader Award to Sigma Pi Xi President Jonna Strickland of Cairo (Ritchie County), West Virginia; and Outstanding Student Organization Advisor Awards to Early Education Student Group advisors Mrs. Connie Stout-O'Dell and Mrs. Shelly Ratliff.
