Alumni Basketball Game Former Pioneer basketball players take the court during a previous alumni game

GLENVILLE, WV - Glenville State College will celebrate Black History Month on Saturday, February 3 during Winter Homecoming when a proclamation will be unveiled and read that afternoon between the Women's and Men's Basketball games. Special honorees at this unveiling will be GSC's black students from the 1960s and 70s who have come back to campus as individuals who paved the way for future black students at Glenville State. GSC's Inaugural Hall of Famer Bob Minnieweather '67, a phenomenal student athlete, will be memorialized at this event.

The day's activities will begin with the annual GSC Alumni Basketball Game which will tip-off at 10:30 a.m. All former Pioneer and Lady Pioneer basketball players and their fans are invited to return to campus for this event and then to spend the day with us. Even if your playing days are over, we hope that you will come back to campus and join us when our Pioneer Basketball alumni are recognized in the afternoon. This is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with teammates, meet our current coaches and their team members, and enjoy rekindling your Glenville State College friendships with fun, food, and lots of good ole Pioneer Camaraderie. Check-in for the alumni game starts at 9:30 a.m. with warm-ups for the game being at 10:00 a.m.

Starting at 12:30 p.m. the GSC Alumni and Foundation Offices will open "The Alumni Deck", which is the ultimate fan section where alumni and friends of the College can come together inside the Waco Center for food, beverages, and a great time. Cheer on the Pioneers from this special section while catching up with alumni and old friends.

Both GSC Pioneer basketball teams will host the University of Charleston Golden Eagles at GSC's Waco Center that afternoon; ladies game at 2:00 p.m., men's game at 4:00 p.m. Returning Pioneer and Lady Pioneer basketball players will be recognized during halftime of the Lady Pioneer game while the Black History Month Proclamation and Recognitions will take place between the two games.

Call, e-mail, or Facebook a friend and invite them to join you on February 3. For planning purposes, returning basketball players are encouraged to call GSC's Alumni Office at (866) 239-0285 to RSVP. If you don't decide to participate until the last minute, come anyway. For more information about the day's events, please call the above number or GSC's Athletic Department at (304) 462-4102.
