WV First Lady Gayle Manchin

West Virginia's First Lady will be taking time out of her busy schedule to visit Glenville State College. Gayle Manchin will be the special guest at the GSC Teacher Education Forum taking place on Thursday, March 22, 2007.

GSC Dean of Teacher Education, Dr. Deb Harrison says the theme of the event is 'GSC’s Journey into the 21st Century of Teacher Preparation.' "The teacher education forum is designed to highlight effective techniques and strategies currently being employed in teacher preparation at Glenville State College. In addition, the teacher education department will seek input from participants to further improve our program to more appropriately meet the needs of public school students," said Harrison.

Participants will include superintendents, principals, RESA directors, curriculum coordinators, college faculty, public school counselors, and public school teachers from across the Mountain State.

In addition to her current duties as West Virginia's First Lady, she serves by appointment as a Commissioner for the National Education Commission of the States while also serving as a Commissioner on the West Virginia Commission for National and Community Service. During his first administration the Governor has appointed her as the Chair of the Governor's Healthy Lifestyles Coalition, Vice Chair of the Governor's Cabinet on Children and Families, Citizens Advisory Council and a Co-Chair on the Governor's 21st Century Jobs Cabinet. She is a partner on the WV Partnership to Promote Community Well Being Commission, serves as the Nominating Chair on the executive board of The Education Alliance and a past president of the Vandalia Rotary Club of Charleston.
