Glenville, WV – Glenville State College’s Hidden Promise Scholars Program has received an early Christmas gift from

Dr. Peter Barr and Brian Nolan

the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. HEPC Chancellor Dr. Brian Noland applauded the program when it was implemented earlier this year. Now he has delivered a ten-thousand dollar check to GSC President Dr. Peter Barr for the program.

“I am pleased to contribute this money on behalf of the HEPC. I commend those who help others go to college as Dr. Barr and Glenville State College are accomplishing with this program,” said Noland.

“I appreciate the support for the HEPC. It is much easier to promote higher education when you have the support that we have from Chancellor Noland,” said Barr.

The first group of GSC Hidden Promise Scholars represents thirteen central West Virginia counties. Dr. Barr and their superintendents signed an agreement in June to work together to increase high school graduation, college attendance, and college graduation rates. The agreement also calls for the school system officials to identify students with ‘hidden promise’ and encourage them to attend college. The selected Hidden Promise Scholars receive $1,000 scholarships, which are renewable for each of their four years at Glenville State College.
