Easter

Dear Lawrence,

It’s almost time to celebrate Easter, so here are some interesting facts you may not know about:

1.     The Easter Bunny

The first known legends about the Easter Bunny are actually from German folklore. Ostara was the goddess of spring. One day she found a frozen bird with a broken wing. She healed it by turning it into a rabbit. Since the rabbit used to be a bird it could still lay eggs.

Another legend was that a women would hide decorated eggs around a small village for the children during times of famine and every time they would look up after finding an egg, they saw a rabbit.

2.     Eggs

Easter eggs are linked with Pagan religious beliefs; they are believe to be a symbol of birth. The Anglo-Saxon goddess Ishtar is believed to have been hatched from an egg that fell from the heavens.

Christians believe that Easter eggs are a symbol of rebirth and life. They would dye them red to symbolize the blood of Christ and would eat them on Easter, the last day of Lent.

3.     Basket

The main reason it is believed we leave gifts in basket for Easter is because that represent a bird’s nest, a sign of life and rebirth.

4.     Candy

This is the second biggest holiday for the amount of money Americans spend on candy, with Halloween in first place,. Easter is estimated at bringing in $1.9 million.

I hope this was insightful and have a great Zombie Jesus Day!
