LGBT+ Alliance Formed on Campus

Glenville State College has recently accepted a new LGBT+ Alliance organization on campus. The group was formed last semester, and had a wide range of signatures from all across campus life.

Although it seemed to be widely anticipated by many people, the number of active members is low. One factor is that many people don’t completely understand who is “accepted” for membership. The answer to that dilemma is that all people of any gender or sexuality, student, staff or faculty member is allowed to join the organization. The best thing for an LGBT+ alliance is to have straight allies active within the organization.

The current members encourage anyone that is interested to reach out to them and join. LGBT+ Alliance member and parliamentarian Nish Lawson says, “This organization will be able to teach people that it is becoming more acceptable and makes people feel more comfortable and welcomed on campus.”

The group currently meets every Monday at 7:00 PM in the LBH Conference room. For more information please contact Shiann Smith at smith.shiannn@gsc.glenville.edu.
