The film Carrie based on the novel by Steven King was released on November 3, 1976. This movie is still considered to be one of the best novels adapted films. Carrie, starring Sissy Spacek and John Travolta, was charted in the top twenty in box office reviews of the year 1976. Originally written by Steven King, Carrie was brought to the big screen by director Brian De Palma.

In this chilling adaptation of Stephen King's horror novel, withdrawn and sensitive teen Carrie White faces taunting from classmates at school and abuse from her fanatically pious mother at home. When strange occurrences start happening around Carrie, she begins to suspect that she has supernatural powers. Invited to the prom by the empathetic Tommy Ross Carrie tries to let her guard down, but things eventually take a dark and violent turn. It was the night that no one would ever forget.

The film received high amounts of praise from critics and audience members. For example, a review published in Empire says, "The reason Carrie is still held in such high regard as a horror classic is very simple: it's all in the sheer directorial bravado. De Palma at the top of his game,"

Then, this quote from an audience member seems to agree with Empire, they state, "The golden age of horror movies, the 70s-80s and this helped shape those two decades. The movie has its own brand of believable creepiness when horror wasn't overdone with gore, blood, and guts like it is today. Even the movie posters are terrifying. King achieved his end result which was to scare you to the bones,"

I too agree with the reviews of the film. I enjoy watching old horror films and to me, Carrie is one of the best. I enjoyed how the film followed the basic premise of the original novel because many movies nowadays that are adapted from a novel tend to steer away from the main theme of the book. I loved the drama, gore, and suspense that this film put me through even though I already knew how it would end.

Overall, I would give Carrie a 10/10. I would also recommend it to anyone wanting to find a good film to watch, especially if they're horror fans.
