Trillium

By Kristen Murphy

As we head into the spring season, trilliums will begin to bloom, and Glenville’s spring literary journal will always be in production. Dr. Jonathan Minton will need all submissions for the 2019 GSC Literary and Arts Journal by March 1. The Trillium is platform for the Glenville community to showcase their talents. The Trillium is seeking poetry, creative nonfiction, fiction, song lyrics, and visual art of all media, Minton stresses that all is welcome and there is no censorship.

While English and art students are frequent contributors, the journal encourages submissions from the larger Glenville community. If you are unsure of the quality of your work, the words of Sylvia Plath might inspire you: “And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.” Minton advices students that he would be more than willing to work with any writer to revise their work until it’s publishable, that is if they feel like they need the help.

Since 1981, the Trillium has been published and the one thing that will keep the journal afloat is participants willing to let the world appreciate their hard work. If by chance you become busy and miss the deadline, Minton will accept and hold submissions for the following year. This journal is thoughtfully put together by a hardworking staff including, Tristan Harper, editor; and Matthew Welch, art editor.

The Trillium is free and can be picked up at the Mollohan Campus Community Center, the Robert F. Kidd Library, and the Language and Literature Department after the deadline is due. Life is all about taking chances, and you only miss the shots that you didn’t take. A beautiful part of Glenville State College goes much deeper than the scenery, it’s the talent among the student body that stretches out into the community. There will be an opportunity to present your published work, but that definitely isn’t mandatory, but would be a wonderful thing to do. By having a piece of literature or art published to the school journal, it then can be used on a resume, and also can be used to submit to another literary or arts journal outside of the college.
