Tornado Drill

Tornado in the distance.

By Abby Mayle

On Tuesday, March 19, there was a state-wide tornado drill which, to say the least, did not go exceptionally well. Very few people actually followed the recommended procedure for the drill, many of them carrying out the rest of their daily lives. In fact, several people, even after hearing the alarms, proceeded to walk outside in the middle of the drill. Many people had complaints about advance information about how to handle a tornado. People on the upper floors of the building were concerned with their safety in the event of a tornado. Also, nobody in the dormitories, at Riverfront, or especially at Pioneer Village could hear the alarms. There’s also the fact that there are very few rooms without windows. Although I’m fairly certain public safety was doing their best and it wasn’t really their choice to have the tornado drill in the first place even though it was more than likely for people’s benefit. Improvements could be made on everyone’s part for the future.
