The Glenville State University Department of Fine Arts is proud to announce the 2026 GSU Percussion Ensemble Concerts. Performances are scheduled for Thursday, April 16, Friday, April 17, and Saturday, April 18, beginning at 7:00 PM in the Fine Arts Center Auditorium. Ticket sales begin Monday, March 2.
The GSU Percussion Ensemble has been a mainstay of the spring Department of Fine Arts performance calendar for over 40 years. The ensemble is under the direction of Professor Jeremy Kirk, a former student of Professor Emeritus John McKinney who directed the ensemble for nearly 40 years until his retirement in 2021.
About the 2026 Concerts
The first half of this year’s program includes pieces written expressly for the percussion ensemble idiom. All composers are current living contributors to our art form which exemplifies the continued growth of literature for percussion. Rhythmic complexities, ambiguous meters, playful comedy, and colorful timbres are showcased; more importantly, themes of hope, courage, and perseverance are interwoven throughout.
In the second half of the program, we present a high-energy performance of popular music from past decades, current chart-toppers, blockbuster film scores, and more. The 2026 program promises to be a night to remember.
In addition to the shows at GSU, the ensemble has previously performed concerts at schools throughout the Mountain State and in venues such as the WV State Capitol, Snowshoe Mountain Resort, the Greenbrier Resort, Opry Mills Mall of America, and the Ryman Auditorium (home of the Grand Ole Opry) in Nashville, TN.
