WVSOM Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Qualifications

West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) guarantees acceptance to all students who complete all program requirements of the Pre-Osteopathic Medicine Program (POMP). The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences with Pre-Medical concentration contains all required prerequisite courses. Students pursuing another baccalaureate major may need to use elective hours to meet the prerequisite course requirements for admission.

  • Complete the POMP Application process by June 30th with interviews by the end of July
    • Earn a minimum of 30 credit hours with at least 12 credit hours from science coursework
    • Science GPA of 3.4 or higher
    • Complete the online application
    • Email copy of your unofficial transcripts to POMP@osteo.wvsom.edu
    • Request your academic advisor at GSU to email a letter of recommendation to POMP@osteo.wvsom.edu
  • Complete the following prerequisite courses with a grade of ā€œCā€ or higher:  BIOL 120, BIOL 121, CHEM 101, CHEM 102, CHEM 301, CHEM 302, CHEM 380, ENGL 101, ENGL 102, PHYS 201, PHYS 202, PYSC 201, and a second behavioral science course (recommendations include PSYC 250 or SOCL 342)
  • Maintain a 3.4 science GPA
    • Students with a science GPA of 3.7 or higher will have the MCAT requirement waived
    • Students with a science GPA of 3.4 and 3.69 must achieve a score of 498 or higher on the MCAT to retain guaranteed admission status
  • Shadow a physician
  • Participate in volunteer/health care activities  
  • Submit an AACOMAS application prior to the beginning of your senior year
  • Submit two required letters of recommendation
    • Physician letter from M.D. or D.O.
    • Science faculty member
