WVU Doctor of Occupational Therapy Qualifications
West Virginia University School of Medicine will accept two Glenville State University students annually into the Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) Collaborative Early Assurance Program who meet the following requirements. The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences with Pre-Occupational Therapy concentration contains all required prerequisite courses. Students pursuing another baccalaureate major may need to use elective hours to meet the prerequisite course requirements for admission.
- Meet the general admission requirement for WVU at the time of admission to Glenville State University
- Submit the following information to the Director of Graduate Admissions and Recruitment, Health Professions, in the WVU School of Medicine once you have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours but no more than 90 credits
- Letter of intent to enter the WVU OTD
- Official copy of your transcript
- Initial letter of endorsement from Director of Pre-Allied Health Programs
- Complete an undergraduate bachelor’s degree, in any major, which includes the prerequisite courses required for admission to WVU’s OTD program
- Attain a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Attain an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher in the required prerequisite courses: BIOL 120, BIOL 121, ENGL 101, ENGL 102, HLTH 107, HLTH 230, HLTH 231, MATH 256, PSYC 201, PSYC 250, PSYC 310, and SOCL 342
- Attain a minimum of “C” in each required prerequisite course
- Complete a minimum of thirty (30) hours of shadowing with at least one occupational therapist or occupational therapist assistant. Students majoring in Health Sciences can satisfy this requirement with EXSC 493 (Practicum).
- Complete an online application for the WVU OTD through the Occupational Therapist Common Application System (OTCAS), including all requisite elements. Completed application must be received and verified no later than August 31st of your senior year
- Submit two letters of recommendation which describes your skills, knowledge and aptitude to become an occupational therapist
- Academic (academic advisor or faculty)
- Professional (OT or OTA) with whom you have worked with in a clinical setting
- You will need to submit the contact information for a third person to be able to submit the OTCAS application. This third evaluation and recommendation letter will not have to completed (uploaded) for your application to be evaluated.
Students who do not meet the above criteria may still apply to the WVU OTD program and will be considered in relation to other qualified candidates in the general pool
