Library Services

Administrators, faculty, and staff are exempt from charges for services if GSU related.

Circulation

Circulation staff members direct library users toward proper resources, manage the flow of material items including interlibrary loans, and maintain circulation records.

Reference

Librarians are available to answer library users' questions either in person, through e-mail, or by phone. The librarians also help students, faculty and staff with research problems and train them on how to use the library's resources. Training often involves how to use the library's web site which provides access to the online catalog, a variety of electronic databases, and other useful research tools.

The library's online catalog is used to locate materials in the library's collections. Currently the library houses approximately: 110,000 books, 483,000 microforms, 625 hard copy journal titles (over 100 of these are current journal subscriptions) and 18 current newspaper subscriptions.

The library's numerous electronic databases provide research opportunities through campus and home computers with Internet access. These databases are located on the "Electronic Databases" web page. One can remotely access these any one of three ways: through the use of a ten digit GSU ID barcode number or the current library assigned password. For help in using the databases or for the remote user password, contact the library.

Computer Access

Computers are available for student use on the first floor of the library. These computers provide Microsoft Office Suite and unfiltered access to the Internet. If other software programs are needed but are not available, see a librarian. The computers print to network printers in the circulation area at a cost of $0.10 per page. Research for class has priority over other uses of the computers.

Any harassing, illegal, or disruptive use of the computers will not be tolerated. Violators of this policy will be asked to leave the computer area immediately. Headphone volume is to be kept at a level acceptable to other people. Problems or concerns should be reported to a library staff member.

Interlibrary Loan

Students, staff and faculty of GSU may request books or periodical articles not currently held at the library through interlibrary loan (ILL). ILLs are provided free to GSU faculty/staff for professionally related materials. One dollar per request (plus an additional $0.10 per page for articles) is charged to students and to faculty/staff for personal use. ILL request forms are available in the library or on the library webpage.

Faxing

The library provides fax service in-state ($1.00 per page), out-of-state ($2.00 per page), and foreign countries ($3.00 per page). There is no charge for the library provided cover sheet. Fax request forms are available in the library and must be filled out and submitted in person. Incoming faxes cost $0.10 per page.
